Smokes For Votes

Freddie Johnson: Baracking the vote for smokes
You know, I love it when I have to read a New York City Newspaper for news on what is going on in my hometown. My local birdcage liner, the Plain Dealer certainly isn’t going to report on this because they themselves are nothing more then a liberal front group masquerading as a news source. They have for years now been the cheerleaders for the Democrat Party power structure in Cleveland that has pretty much ruined the city and Cuyahoga County.
But, I digress. This isn’t a post about Cleveland politics — at least not directly. It is a post about Barrack Obama’s favorite far left front group, I mean favorite group of Community Organizer’s, ACORN and the many ways they get out the youth vote — like giving them free cigarettes to register multiple times.
From the New York Post:
CLEVELAND - A man at the center of a voter-registration scandal told The Post yesterday he was given cash and cigarettes by aggressive ACORN activists in exchange for registering an astonishing 72 times, in apparent violation of Ohio laws.
“Sometimes, they come up and bribe me with a cigarette, or they’ll give me a dollar to sign up,” said Freddie Johnson, 19, who filled out 72 separate voter-registration cards over an 18-month period at the behest of the left-leaning Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
“The ACORN people are everywhere, looking to sign people up. I tell them I am already registered. The girl said, ‘You are?’ I say, ‘Yup,’ and then they say, ‘Can you just sign up again?’ ” he said.
Johnson used the same information on all of his registration cards, and officials say they usually catch and toss out duplicate registrations. But the practice sparks fear that some multiple registrants could provide different information and vote more than once by absentee ballot.
ACORN is under investigation in Ohio and at least eight other states - including Missouri, where the FBI said it’s planning to look into potential voter fraud - for over-the-top efforts to get as many names as possible on the voter rolls regardless of whether a person is registered or eligible.
It’s even under investigation in Bridgeport, Conn., for allegedly registering a 7-year-old girl to vote, according to the State Elections Enforcement Commission.
Meanwhile, a federal judge yesterday ordered Ohio’s Secretary of State to verify the identity of newly registered voters by matching them with other government documents. The order was in response to a Republican lawsuit unrelated to the ACORN probe in Cuyahoga County, in which at least three people, including Johnson, have been subpoenaed.
Bribing citizens with gifts, property or anything of value is a fourth-degree felony in Ohio, punishable by up to 18 months in prison. And it’s a fifth-degree felony - punishable by 12 months in jail - for a person to pay “compensation on a fee-per-registration” system when signing up someone to vote.
Johnson, who works at a cellphone kiosk in downtown Cleveland, said he was a sitting duck for the signature hunters, but was always happy to help them out in exchange for a smoke or a little scratch. He’d collected 10 to 20 cigarettes and anywhere from $10 to $15, he said.

I think Apu got it right.
It’s so embarrassing to come from the same hometown and similar ethnic background as Kucinich.
Cleveland Drug Dealer Proves He is Indeed “Dumber Than Mud” and “Trash”
August 7, 2007 by Joe · Leave a Comment
Arsenio Winston, the 18 year old drug dealer who made headlines around the world when Cleveland City Councilman Mike Polensek wrote him a nasty, but truthful letter — now has an arrest warrant issued out for him as the dumb-ass, thug criminal lowlife has failed to show up today for his scheduled court hearing.
What really bugs me is that this lowlife crack dealing scumbag — I emphasize scumbag because the loser sells crack cocaine and not something less harmful like marijuana — was only given a $5,000 bond, even though it was not his first offense selling crack, he had previously been arrested as a juvenile. So four days after being arrested and a payment of five hundred bucks later, the piece of garbage is back on the street so he can presumably “hustle” some money and “make his cash,” by selling more crack into the community.
Now, Arsenio T. Winston of 648 East 102 St. in Cleveland, who is a known crack dealer is out on the street with a warrant out for his arrest. He is wanted for two counts of drug trafficking, two counts of drug possession, one count of possession of criminal tools and now one count of failure to appear in court.
Talking Trash to Trash

For the first time that I can remember I can finally say that I agree 100% with something that was said by a local politician here in my hometown of Cleveland.
Mike Polensek, Councilman in Cleveland’s 11th ward, wrote a scathing letter recently, to local crack dealer Arsenio Winston. Winston, 18, was recently arrested for selling crack cocaine outside a convenient store in Councilman Polensek’s ward. This was not the first time that Winston was arrested for such activities, but it was the first time that it happened as a legal adult instead of as a juvenile.
The longtime councilman said he often writes blunt letters to troublemakers in his neighborhood and makes no apologies for this one to Winston.
“I’m fed up and the people in my neighborhood are fed up,” Polensek said. “There’s no political correctness left in me.”
Winston’s mother, Tonya Lewis, said she plans to speak to her attorney, former city councilman George Forbes, about filing a lawsuit against Polensek. She said she also has written a letter to black activist Al Sharpton.
Lewis said she views Polensek’s letter as a death threat against her son because the councilman said “he didn’t care which one came first, that he went to jail or the cemetery.” She also said he referred to Winston as “dumber than mud,” which she considers a racist remark.
In an interview Wednesday, Polensek defended his letter.
“If my letter was offensive, fine, so be it,” he said. “If my letter’s going to make his mother and family think about what he’s done, I’m glad.
“I don’t wish that he dies. I don’t wish that any young person dies. What I’m saying is, this is what will happen to him - it’s either the cemetery or jail - unless he changes his life.”
All I can say to Councilman Polensek is thank you for saying what the law-abiding citizens of greater Cleveland have been wanting to say for years.
Click here to see a video clip of local talk show host Bob Frantz, who devoted his whole show to this topic today, with his ‘Frantz Rantz’ clip talking about the language used in the letter.
Here’s the letter:

W Visits My Hometown

The President came to visit Cleveland today first he stopped at Graftec a company which is doing work on alternative fuels. While touring the company’s facilities he viewed a demonstration of a fuel cell powered lift truck, which provides clean, reliable power.
His next stop was over at one of the best hospitals in the country, the Cleveland Clinic… but before he did that, he made a stop at a restaurant just around the corner from the neighborhood I grew up in, Slyman’s — home of the best corned beef sandwiches ever.
He gave a great speech while at the clinic today, though you couldn’t completely tell by the really choppy and edited audio which can be found here, courtesy of WTAM.
Cleveland wants to fix the inner-city by trashing the suburbs

I don’t really post about local issues here on this blog too often, and lately I’ve been way too busy with work to post about anything, but this is just something that I couldn’t ignore.
Instead of trying to find actual constructive ways of improving the city of Cleveland — a city which always finds a way to rank amongst the top percentile of: dangerous places to live, poorest places to live, worst places to find a good job, as well as pretty much every other undesirable category there is — Mayor Frank Jackson and the “President’s Council” have come up with ways to spread the disaster that is Cleveland to the neighboring communities as well.
I no longer live in the city itself, having had moved to the suburbs during my early teenage years, but I spend pretty much every day in Cleveland’s inner-city running a small family-owned business and get to watch day by day as the city rots from the inside out. We are a “so-called” big city, but you would never know it if you were downtown during the weekend, Cleveland is more like a ghost town then.
Cleveland’s violent-crime rate is almost 2 times the national average, the poverty rate is at almost 40%, almost a quarter of the households are headed by single-parents. The public school system is a disaster, and worse yet the inner-city youth who attend Cleveland’s schools grow up in a culture that frowns upon getting an education.
Instead of looking into ways of improving the quality of life inside the city of Cleveland, the mayor has backed a report that calls for “regionalism” which is really just a nice way of saying that they want to spread the filth and decay out to the suburbs as well.
The so-called “President’s Council” plan recommends:
1. Increasing mass public transportation from the inner city to the suburbs, so as to provide inner-city Clevelander’s access to suburban jobs.
2. Allowing Cleveland students to attend suburban schools
And here’s the best one…
3. Mandating that suburban communities should build low-income housing.
So in other words bring liquor stores, check cashing/payday loan stores and kids walking around causing trouble while wearing their “If you see da police, warn a brotha’” tee shirts.
