About

I’ve always thought of online profiles, especially ones written by the author about themselves to be an odd thing. How exactly does one go about describe themselves accurately? As no matter what we may think about ourselves we are always usually something completely different to each and every person whom we knows vision of us.

That being said, I suppose that if you are actually reading this, it probably means one of two things. 1) You stumbled across this page on the internet by mistake, or 2) you are actually interested in finding out more about the man behind the Right Wing Rebel website. I’ll go ahead and assume that the latter is true, as I try to explain a little bit about myself.

My name is Joe and I am the child of immigrants, I am Croatian by blood and American by the grace of God. I am proud of my Croatian heritage, but at the same time I feel truly blessed to have been given the opportunity to be born and raised in the greatest country on God’s Green Earth.

I chose the name “Right Wing Rebel” for my website mainly because I thought it just sounds cool, I mean just say it out loud — “Right Wing Rebel” — doesn’t it just reek of awesomeness as it rolls of the tongue? Probably gives some people the impression that I’m some sort of gun-toting guerilla.

As you can guess I veer to the right when it comes to my spot on the political spectrum, but the name Right Wing Rebel, also serves to show that while I consider myself to be an Independent minded Conservative, who has aligned himself closer to the Republican Party in recent years — I am a far cry from what you would call a traditional Republican.

I firmly believe that The United States of America is a country predominately founded on Judeo-Christian values and there is most definitely a place for God in our culture and society. That being said however, I am most definitely not part of the wacky religious right, I think Pat Robertson and others like him are nut jobs. I am a Christian though and once again I am a Conservative, but I’m not a “Christian Conservative” or a “NeoCon.”

I was born and raised into the Roman Catholic Church, and even spent time as an Altar Boy as well as later a religion teacher for my church, though I wouldn’t exactly call myself a practicing Catholic. I wouldn’t go as far as to call myself an agnostic either, I just do not believe that ones faith needs to be confined to a brick and mortar building.

I voted for and fully supported George W. Bush, but honestly, if it were not for the war on terror my vote may have possibly gone in another direction. W is a great and honorable man, but he’s too much of a “big government conservative” for lack of a better term. He seems resigned to the fact that we have a large government in this country of ours and tries to use it to help push conservative values.

I myself agree more with Ronald Reagan who felt that government is not the solution, but rather the problem. To quote Henry David Thoreau, I believe that “That government is best which governs least.”

I truly believe that most Americans in their heart of hearts are disgusted at what has become of our government and want to reverse the trend of rampant unchecked liberalism. The size and reach of our federal government has gotten out of hand, and I agree with Barry Goldwater who said:

The turn will come when we entrust the conduct of our affairs to men who understand that their first duty as public officials is to divest themselves of the power they have been given. It will come when Americans, in hundreds of communities throughout the nation, decide to put the man in office who is pledged to enforce the Constitution and restore the Republic. Who will proclaim in a campaign speech:

“I have little interest in stream lining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution, or that have failed in their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is ‘needed’ before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents’ ‘interests,’ I shall reply that I was informed their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can.”

You could call me what Dave Smalley, lead singer of the bands Dag Nasty and Down By Law, would call a Gonzo Conservative. I have always been a metal head at heart, but more and more in the past few years I have gravitated towards country music — which is ironic because I hated the stuff as a teenager. I don’t hear country stars (except for the Dixie Chicks) whining and complaining on MTV about how our country sucks.

I also like collecting tattoos, hunting and camping neither of the last two do I get the opportunity to do as much as I would like. That’s all I got for now, I don’t really know if that was an adequate enough job of describing myself, I’ll just leave the rest up to everyone who knows me. If you want to know more, I guess you’ll just have to continue reading.
