This Just In From Londonistan…

Can you guess what name has risen up to be the number two most common name for baby boys in Britain?

If you guessed John, Paul, George or Ringo your wrong.

The number one most popular name in Britain for boys is currently Jack, also making the top five are; Thomas, Joshua and Oliver, which are 3, 4 and 5 respectively. The number two name however, which is rising up to the top of the charts like a bullet… Mohammed.

In all honestly the name Mohammed, at least in that spelling doesn’t even crack the top twenty, but that is only because there are over a dozen different spelling variations on the name. When combined, they rank as the number two most popular baby name in Britain.

According to the Times:

Overall, Muslims account for 3 per cent of the British population, about 1.5 million people. However, the Muslim birthrate is roughly three times higher than the nonMuslim one.

Statistics from the ONS show that Muslim households are larger than those headed by someone of another religion. In 2001, the average size of a Muslim household was 3.8 people while a third contained more than five people.

When you combine that with this, this, this and that… The thought of what Great Britain will look like 30 years from now is frightening.
