Calling out the “Religion of Peace”
August 30, 2006 by Joe
I have tried to not look at the problem of terrorism and Islamofascism as being a problem with the Islamic religion itself. I know that in most religions in the world there are fundamentalists that push things too far to the extreme. It is unfortunate that those fundamentalist extremists are the ones that get most of the attention and the peaceful practitioners of the religion are lumped in as part of a group filled with crazies.
As I wrote a few months back in a post about the Mohammed cartoon controversy,
I am a full supporter of the Bush administrations was on terror and believe it is the number one threat facing the world at this time. At the same time, I have always scoffed at people who claim that we are at a war with Islam. “No we are not” I would reply. “Islam is a peaceful religion, we are at war with those that alter and twist its views for their own warped goals.”
The more and more that I see people protesting, rioting, burning things down, causing the loss of innocent lives and calling for the beheading of cartoonists, makes me wonder if the people who are practicing a warped twisted version of Islam are really that large of a group, or is the whole religion really nuts.
When I see people, holding up signs that read, “behead those who insult Islam,” “freedom of expression is western terrorism” it makes me sick to my stomach at the hypocrisy.
More and more I have to ask myself, where are the moderate voices within Islam denouncing terrorist acts, denouncing all the people that have dies as a result radicalized Islam?
Here in the United States we have a wonderful idea known as Freedom of Religion, people of all different faiths can come to this country and practice their religion. We can have a Catholic Church down the street from a Synagogue which is down the street from a Mosque. How many Churches or Mosque’s are there in the Mideast?
The more and more I look into the Islamic faith and see what it teaches, the more and more I come to realize that it is not just the radicals, here is a snippet of some real teachings of Islam that I found at the Islamic Review.:
- Men are superior to women (surah 2:228).
- Women have half the rights of men: in court witness (surah 2:282) and in inheritance
(surah 4:11). - A man may punish his wife by beating her (surah 4:34).
- A man may marry up to four wives at the same time (surah 4:3).
- A wife is a sex object for her husband (surah 2:223).
- Muslims must fight until their opponents submit to Islam (surah 9:29).
- A Muslim must not take a Jew or a Christian for a friend (surah 5:51).
- A Muslim apostate must be killed (surah 9:12).
- Stealing is punished by the amputation of the hands (surah 5:38).
- Adultery is punished by public flogging (surah 24:2).
- Resisting Islam is punished by death, crucifixion or the cutting off of the hands and feet
(surah 5:33). - Fate decides everyone’s eternal destination (surah 17:13).
- Every Muslim will pass through Hell (surah 19:71).
- Heaven in Islam is the place where a Muslim will be reclining, eating meats and delicious fruits, drinking exquisite wines, and engaging in sex with virgins (surah 55:54- 56) & (surah 52:17,19).
So I look at this and just have to wonder is the problem we are facing in the world today really a problem with those who interpret the Koran in ways that serve terrorist beliefs — or is it a problem with the Koran itself.
I searched a little more and found my answer here. From Surah 9.5
But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, an seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
The term Pagan here essential means anybody that is not a Muslim. And so it hits me, because after reading that verse how anybody that can call Islam a peaceful religion is beyond me. Surah 9.5 basically justifies Islamic terrorism, by telling Muslims to kill anybody who is not one of them.
And then I find this disgusting interview on Al Jazeera of all places, with a Muslim cleric who says to other Muslims “don’t be afraid of being called radical.” Here is a nice selection of quotes from the interview.
“Islam’s victory can only come through dawah and jihad, not elections. Thats why Islamic parties are on the wrong path, even the better ones like the Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS) here (in Indonesia) and your PAS (in Malaysia). As long as democracy is their chosen path, the end result is haram. Nothing good can come from that which is haram, is that not the case? So if democracy is haram, then what kind of Islamic state can come from that? Certainly not a pure Islamic state. Elections are quite useless.”
“The struggle for Islam can only come through crisis and confrontation. Islam is here to change the world, not to be changed by the world. So there is bound to be resistance, that is why the West fears us.”
“Democracy must be replaced by Allah-cracy and this cannot come from elections. Those who oppose us must be educated, that is why dawah is important, to show them that Islam is the only way. But if they still resist, and are wilfully stubborn, or if they create obstacles for us, then they must be opposed.”
“The only model to follow is pure Islam. Because Islam in its original form was tough and hard, not weak and pliable. Islam is fixed, stable, ordered and disciplined, and so are Muslims. If we return to the real practice of true Islam we would be much stronger and that is when the kafirs will fear us. That is why we need to uphold the Shariah and return to real Islam.”
“Why do we Muslims have to learn from them? Islam is perfect, there is nothing to be added or changed. We have shown that Islam can rule the world perfectly for 14 centuries, and during this time of Muslim power we did not borrow ideas like democracy from others, so why do we need to learn democracy from them now“?
“We want an Islamic state where Islamic law is not just in the books but enforced, and enforced with determination. There is no space and no room for democratic consultation”
“How can we dialogue for peace in the Arab world as long as Israel exists? Israel cannot dream of having peaceful borders because Israel has no right to exist, no right to be there. That is the land of Palestine, for the Palestinians. How can any Muslim leader say that Israel has the right to safe borders? It should not be there in the first place”!
“Islam is here to change the world, not to be changed by the world”
I really don’t think I need to say anything more, after that last quote.
